A1R WASZP Squad Gaining Momentum Ahead of WASZP Games in Weymouth

As the countdown to the 2025 WASZP Games in Weymouth intensifies, the America One Racing (A1R) WASZP Squad is making waves across Europe, with standout performances that highlight both the depth and promise of the U.S. contingent.

At the prestigious Foiling Week in Lago di Garda, Pearl Lattanzi delivered a strong performance, finishing second in the women’s division, while Hoel Menard impressed with an 8th place overall finish in a record-sized fleet—an encouraging sign of his growing form ahead of the season’s peak event.

The squad followed up with a powerful showing at the French Nationals, where Hoel climbed to the podium in 3rd overall, and A1R women once again took the spotlight with Pearl Lattanzi and Maya Kwasniewski finishing 2nd and 3rd in the female division. Maya’s result also marked her first podium at a Tier 3 event, a key milestone in her competitive journey.

Bryce Huntoon and Charlie Parsons brought A1R energy to Italy with a six-week campaign in the WASZP division of the Nastro Rosa Tour, a multi-discipline circuit that visited nine iconic coastal towns. Representing top international teams—Marina Militare and VSAW respectively—they faced a wide range of conditions and tight race courses. Bryce quickly found his stride, winning the first stop in Cattolica, while Charlie used the experience to refine his setup and bounced back with a 3rd place finish in Vieste. In the narrow and technical race zone of Porto Brindisi, the duo delivered one of their best collective performances of the tour, with Bryce securing 2nd and Charlie finishing 5th overall in a fleet where races were decided by seconds. The variety of conditions and the tactical challenges across the tour sharpened their skills and race IQ—valuable preparation ahead of joining the U.S. team for the WASZP Games in Weymouth.

Meanwhile, at the 2025 WASZP Americas Championship in Kingston, Ontario, A1R athlete Gavin Ball dominated the event with nine race wins and two second-place finishes to claim 1st overall with a net score of just 11 points. Close behind was fellow A1R team member Thomas Sitzmann, who secured 2nd place overall, rounding out a strong one-two finish for the program and showcasing the depth of U.S. talent in the class.

A1R will support the 16-athlete U.S. squad in Weymouth with elite coaching from Olympic Gold Medalist Anna Tobias, World Champion and Rolex Yachtsman of the Year Ravi Parent, and America's Cup and Quantum Racing veteran Tom Burnham—bringing world-class insight and leadership to the team’s campaign.

Looking ahead, the WASZP Class is set to make history as it brings its first-ever World Championship to U.S. waters in March 2026, hosted by Pensacola Yacht Club in Pensacola, Florida—the training base of the American Magic team. This landmark event promises to further energize the growing U.S. foiling scene and provide a major home-field opportunity for rising American talent.

Here’s Hoel report:

Last week, the America One Racing Team travelled to Malcesine, Italy, to compete in the 2025 Italian Foiling Week. This edition was the largest Waszp fleet in Foiling Week history, with a record 131 boats attending. The team trained and raced in perfect sailing conditions with 8 to 14 knots of wind every day and made the most of the large fleet to continue the preparations for the World Championship in Weymouth. The entire team appreciated the perfect sailing conditions and felt grateful to be in such an iconic venue. For me personally, gratitude was even more on my mind as I have spent the last four months rehabbing from tendinitis in both my forearms. This meant four months without sailing making the experience even more amazing. Thanks to the support of my doctors and A1R I am able to compete and continue the season with little to no pain.

As Malcesine often is, the race course was heavily favored on the shore, putting an emphasis on starts and upwind speed. Once around the top mark, downwind was all about staying in pressure and managing the ever-changing wind conditions close to shore. This race course allowed us to further develop our fleet and lane management skills, along with fine-tuning our speed, as getting to shore first was almost always a priority.

The team would like to thank A1R for the continued support, notably the San Francisco training camp in the lead up to the event, where coach Charlie McKee helped us fine-tune our boat handling and regatta mindset. Looking forward, we will race at the French Nationals, then travel to England in order to begin our final preparations before the Worlds.
