A1R Wingfoil Squad Builds Momentum at WingFoil Racing World Cup Türkiye
After an extended period focused on equipment development, testing and injury recovery, athletes in the America One Racing Formula Wingfoil squad returned to competition last week at the WingFoil Racing World Cup in Türkiye. The event delivered a demanding schedule featuring long-distance racing, short-course formats, and high-pressure fleet racing against one of the deepest international fields in the sport.
Formula Wingfoil has quickly emerged as one of the most dynamic and technically advanced disciplines in modern sailing. Athletes race on hydrofoil boards using handheld inflatable wings, flying above the water at high speeds while navigating tactical racecourses that demand precision, endurance, and adaptability. At the advanced level, success is driven not just by athletic ability, but equally as important in equipment development, testing, and technical refinement.
That combination is exactly why the discipline aligns so naturally with A1R. Formula Wingfoil represents the future of modern sailing — blending athlete preparation, foil technology, systems optimization, and constant evolution in pursuit of competitive gains. For the program, it also creates an important pathway for developing American foiling talent while remaining deeply connected to the leading edge of international performance sailing.
Leading the charge once again was A1R Foiling Pipeline athlete Sean Herbert, who finished 6th overall after a consistently strong week on the water. Just as exciting for the program was the continued progression of Maxi Nores and Kai Mirel, with both A1R athletes achieving their goal of qualifying for Gold Fleet: an important milestone as the squad continues building depth, confidence, and international experience.
The regatta also marked an important step forward in the team’s ongoing partnership with F4 Foils. Following months of testing and refinement, the collaboration continues to play a major role in helping the athletes push performance forward at the highest level of Formula Wingfoil racing within the A1R Foiling Pipeline program. The gains in speed, reliability, and consistency throughout the event reflected the value of a partnership built around innovation and experimentation.
The A1R squad now returns home for a focused domestic training block where attention shifts toward fine-tuning systems, building consistency, and preparing for the World Championships later this summer. With momentum continuing to build across the group, the objective remains clear: improve upon the team’s 2025 results and continue elevating an American presence on the international Formula Wingfoil stage.
