Sail Melbourne - Charlotte Rose delivers a strong performance

After arriving in Melbourne a month before the regatta, we committed to a full training block on Port Phillip — not simply to familiarise ourselves with the venue, but to refine the key process-goals that underpin Charlotte’s campaign. While we can’t share the fine details, it’s safe to say we are exactly where we need to be. Throughout November, the variable conditions of the bay and the world-class training group allowed us to target specific areas highlighted from the previous season’s racing and training. All of this work culminated in Sail Melbourne — the premier regatta of our winter season.

By the time racing began, Charlotte was sailing with clarity and purpose, showcasing new skills while continuing to work deliberately on identified areas throughout the event. She delivered one of the most consistent performances of the week in a strong ILCA 6 fleet, handling Melbourne’s trademark mix of rapidly changing conditions with maturity and poise. Across the series, she kept herself at the top of the leaderboard and entered the medal races in a perfect position.

After a long final day on the water — with 3 to 35 knots, torrential rain, and bright sunshine (Melbourne delivering its full range of conditions) — Charlotte fought a tight battle and came away with the silver medal, a testament to the work she has put in. The medal is the outcome, but the execution of the process throughout both the regatta and the month-long training block, along with the lessons learned on the new potential Olympic format and the skills required to win gold, were truly invaluable.

We now move forward with a clear roadmap: reinforce the strengths shown here, tighten a few small execution gaps, and build towards the next major event with confidence. Sail Melbourne was a significant step forward — and exactly the regatta we needed at this stage of the campaign.
