America One Racing Foiling Pipeline Program Produces Triple Gold at US Sailing National Championships last weekend
America One Racing’s Foiling Pipeline continues to deliver outstanding results, with A1R athletes winning three national titles at the US Sailing Singlehanded and Wingfoil National Championships. These victories demonstrate the value of A1R’s long-term development pathway.
Gavin Ball claimed the U.S. Singlehanded Championship title hosted at the Tabor Academy in Marion, MA raced in the WASZP class, leading a highly competitive fleet and confirming his place as one of the most promising young sailing athletes in the U.S. JP Lattanzi secured the overall U.S. Wingfoil Championship in San Francisco hosted by St. Francis Yacht Club, just weeks after his impressive 5th place finish at the Wingfoil World Cup in Silvaplana, Switzerland. At the same event, Calum McDonald captured the U19 U.S. Wingfoil title, rounding out a triple gold performance for A1R over the weekend.
These results are the outcome of months of structured training, preparation and exposure to high-level international competition. Gavin entered the Nationals off the back of standout performances at Foiling Week in Pensacola and the WASZP Class National Championship in Annapolis. He and his teammates are preparing to represent the U.S. at the Waszp Games in Weymouth, England, next month.
The Wingfoil squad carried strong momentum from the Silvaplana World Cup, turning it into a commanding team performance at the U.S. Wingfoil Championship. Six A1R athletes qualified for the Final Round, placing among the top eight sailors from the Gold Fleet Series. Sean Herbert led the charge with a dominant performance, fresh off his bronze medal at the World Cup, winning 14 of the 15 races including the San Francisco Bay long distance race
The A1R Moth squad is now deep into final preparations at Lago di Garda, Italy, ahead of next month’s Moth World Championship. After a strong showing at last year’s Worlds in New Zealand, the group is focused on raising the bar even higher. This elite squad includes a strong mix of A1R youth talent, Olympians, world champions, and America’s Cup veterans—all united by the A1R DNA of teamwork, knowledge-sharing, and pushing each other to improve. Their campaign reflects the program’s commitment to excellence across multiple foiling classes and generations.
“These results show what happens when you combine talent with structure,” said Leandro Spina, America One Racing’s Executive Director. “Our athletes are training hard, pushing each other, and learning fast—because our program equips them with the tools, training, and support to compete at the highest level.
“I’ve never had this level of support before—from the domestic training blocks to the racing schedule, to working with world-class coaching. It’s the first time I’ve felt like a true professional,” said Calum McDonald, U19 Wingfoil National Champion and A1R athlete.
With foiling now at the forefront of the sport—spanning the Olympic Games, America's Cup, SailGP, the Vendee Globe and The Ocean Race—America One Racing Foiling Pipeline is committed to developing the next generation of U.S. foiling talent through vision, structure, and long-term investment in athletes who are aiming for Olympic medals, spots in elite international competitions or world championship titles.
This program would not be possible without the generous support of our partners and supporters, including the Sailing Foundation of New York, the Schoonmaker Foundation, Quantum Racing/American Magic, and the Windmark Foundation. Their shared belief with us in guiding the development of these athletes is a major factor in the success of this project to date.
